To empower children with essential skills for the future and to develop an interest for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, Ang Mo Kio Methodist Preschool has collaborated with Skillsquest, an education provider offering quality programmes for children, to offer an engaging Robotics Coding Enrichment Programme for their K1 and K2 students.

Through fun and hands-on lessons, children will build various interesting robotic creations using colourful blocks and learn to program them to move with sounds, music and lights in order to express ideas, solve a problem or accomplish specific goals. Through the programme, not only will children learn essential STEM and Coding skills, they will also develop better problem-solving and creative-thinking skills.

Programme Objectives and Desired Outcomes

Foster interest and passion for STEM fields.
Learn to build robots using colourful blocks, control hub and motors step-by-step.
Learn to model daily processes by creating and following algorithms (sets of step-by-step instructions) to complete task challenges.
Learn to develop programs with fundamental code structures including events, variables, conditionals, loops, functions, cause and effect, if/then logic, sequencing and debugging.
Children will gain an understanding of coding concepts through block-based programming that is suitable for early years.
Children will develop logical reasoning through learning simple algorithms and to debug (identify and fix) errors in an algorithm or program.
Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Promote teamwork and collaboration with enhanced communication skills.
Hone creativity and enhance ability to think outside the box.
Nurture perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges.
