Faith Methodist Preschool Values In Action:

Book Joy

Through a class discussion on the 2023 Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) VIA project, Faith Methodist K1 preschoolers decided to bless some special groups of people with their preloved books. Reading brings us joy and we hope to bring joy to others as well, hence the SSDB project name ‘Book Joy’ was birthed. A memo was created and the children decorated their own circular which were given to their parents to inform them of the book donation drive. Parents then worked with their children to select, pack and bring the donated books to school.

Thanks to the generous contribution of our parents & K1 children, more than 6 cartons of books of varying levels of difficulty was collected! Our children were then guided to inspect the donated books to ensure that they were in good condition without missing, torn or vandalised pages. Books were also sorted according to difficulty levels.

Arrangement was made to deliver the donated books to Dignity Mama, an initiative by Project Dignity, whose mission is to restore dignity to the differently-abled and disadvantaged through vocation with passion. At Dignity Mama, differently-abled young adults are given the opportunity to run and manage a stall along with a caregiver to provide guidance and co-run the stall to sell books in good condition that were priced affordably. . This equips the young adults with entrepreneurial skills and independence.

The meaning VIA project had given our children, their families and our team at FMP an opportunity to give our preloved books a new lease of life and help others in the course of it. We are indeed grateful for the privilege to put values learnt into action.
