Do you want to give your child a GOOD NUMERACY HEAD START ?

Join our Abacus Enrichment Programme co-organised with our partner, Fun with Abacus which has more than 15 years experience in providing effective Abacus programmes for young learners. K1 & K2 students from our group of Methodist preschool and members of the public are welcome to join the enrichment programme.

Programme Methodology

Students will be guided through a systematic and fruitful learning journey of continuous inquiry and exploration of Numeracy. Children will learn at their own pace through play, hands-on activities and engaging lessons to help them understand the concepts, familiarise with application to achieve accuracy, before moving on to repetitive practice to enhance their speed. Since each child may learn in different ways, our highly-trained teachers will adapt various teaching methods to unique learning styles of different children so as to ensure effective learning for all.

**The 9-Beads Abacus**

The 9-Beads Abacus is specially designed for easy manipulation
by
young preschoolers. It is also attractively designed with bright colours
that appeal to children. Each bead in the same column on the
9-Beads Abacus represents the same value, which makes it easier for
young learners to comprehend as compared to traditional abacus.

By giving children a concrete tool to manipulate, the abacus supports
hands-on learning and enhances comprehension of abstract
arithmetic concepts like place values, addition and subtraction.

Once a child is familiar with the use of the abacus, he or she can
progress
to doing mental calculations using
visualisation technique
that
helps
him or her picture the
abacus in the mind and
carry
out calculations
virtually. This does much
to boost
their
visualisation, imagination and concentration skills.

Course Highlights

Students will be led through systematic stages to gain competency to give them a good head start for their Primary School numeracy journey at the end of K2.

Concepts covered :

Recognise and write numerals up to 100
Learn Number Bonds to 100
Learn the place values of “Ones”, “Tens” and “Hundreds” and their position on the abacus
Learn addition and subtraction, and solve various sums using the abacus
Learn and know Times Tables of 2,3,4 and 5
Execute mental calculations via visualisation , without the use of the abacus
